My Philosophy

It is impossible to sum up my philosophy on life in one sentence or even one paragraph. As a woman, mother, doctor, entrepreneur and speaker I have many experiences that have shaped my beliefs and practices in the different areas of my life.

I Believe in Helping Others and Personal Excellence
I deeply care about people and it has always been important to me to make life better and easier for as many people as I can. My dream is to help as many people as possible reach their potential.  My key values are integrity, honesty, kindness, compassion and excellence in whatever I do. I am passionate about my family, fitness, and lifelong learning.

I Believe in Being True to Myself
I spent much of my younger years worrying about what people thought of me. Now in my 40s, I am wise enough to no longer nurse this adolescent obsession with being loved. I suppose the need to please has, at long last, atrophied and set me free.

I know now that I must trust my instincts and honor my truth. It is so important to be authentic to be who you really are and truly love who you are. Be humble in a confident way. Know your passions, purpose and values in life and follow them.

I Believe in Being Ethical & Successful
I have a keen interest in business strategies and embrace the business aspect of my practice and other endeavors. I am always reading on techniques to improve my businesses and would love to impart this knowledge to others.

It is critical to be honest and have integrity in business while still managing the bottom line. One must do the right thing whether anybody is watching or not.

Over the years, I have developed strategies and systems to improve the business acumen and communication skills of doctors and other medical professionals. I believe that being a good doctor is more than knowing the correct diagnosis; it is about helping and being supportive of your patients.

I Believe in the Power of Women
Impacting the lives of other women and supporting women to succeed is one of my biggest passions. I help women step up to their power, confront their fears and impact the world.  We, as women, need to stand together and support each other.

We have many issues that come up as we try to balance the many roles we must fill such as mother, wife, friend, sister, daughter and career woman. We have to somehow find time to take care of ourselves, love ourselves and honor ourselves while still taking care of and nurturing others. And somehow not lose our dreams in the process.

I Believe in Honoring and Learning From the Aged
I think we need to respect and honor the wisdom of the more experienced population. As a cataract surgeon, I work with so many seniors and I truly feel they are living history. I would love to see a shift in society towards honoring the aged. You can learn so much from the collective experience of others if you stop to listen especially those with a greater life experience. I believe in aging gracefully and powerfully and in embracing the wisdom that comes with age.

I Believe in Being Positive
I am an eternal optimist with a sprinkling of realism. I believe we control our own destiny by drawing to us what we think and what we put out there. We need to think positively and be positive. Attitude is the difference maker. We are all 100% responsible for ourselves. You are not your circumstances you are your possibilities (Thanks Oprah for that one).

I Believe in Facing Your Fears
Confronting fears in life is crucial. My favorite quote is,

You gain strength, courage and confidence in every experience in which you stop to look fear in the face. You must do that which you think you cannot do
Eleanor Roosevelt.

Being able to step out of your comfort zone is necessary to find your growth and reach your full potential. You get in life what you have the courage to ask for and anything is possible.

I Believe in the Mind & Body Connection
The mind and body are closely connected. I have always had an interest in this relationship and I feel a strong physical body is the platform on which a strong life sits. You must take care of yourself so you can take care of others in your life.

Lean in to your wellness by taking small steps in the right direction. Be kind to yourself and follow your own set of rules to get done what you have to get done and keep moving.

I Believe That You Get What You Give
Contribution to the world is what it is all about. I feel the richness of life lies in a deeper understanding and compassion for the humanity of others.
