Overcoming Burnout & Adrenal Fatigue
July 30th, 2013
How do we live our dreams and make a dent in the universe when we don’t have enough energy to change our underwear?
I recently spoke to a patient who was feeling constantly run down. She had some events happen recently that led to a lot of stress and it was no surprise her body was reacting.
I write and speak a lot about maximizing your energy levels and going after your big dreams but for some people who barely have the energy to make it through the day it seems like an impossible ideal. If your everyday life makes you exhausted, it’s doubtful you’ll ever have the energy to follow your dreams.

Going Beyond Goals to a Vision
July 23rd, 2013
I was out hiking in the mountains last weekend with my family. I find it so peaceful and beautiful. It always feels like being closer to God. Out there in nature with the breeze and the wild flowers it is so freeing and refreshing. As we were trekking under the bright blue sky surrounded in emerald green hills with the sun warming our backs, a boy and his Dad came riding by on their mountain bikes.
We were at a point approaching a bridge that crosses over a rocky creek of fresh spring water. We exchanged hellos as they rolled on by. The Dad crossed the narrow bridge easily. The boy looked anxious, slowed the speed of his bike and looked down into the creek, and almost as if time stood still he slowly toppled over on his bike and landed hard on the rocks below.

How to Give an Amazing Presentation
July 8th, 2013
A few weeks ago, I gave two talks to a group of optometrists. One focused on an approach to dealing with the patient with elevated intraocular pressure and the other on 4 Keys to World Class Productivity.
I used to get nervous when giving speeches but I’ve relaxed a bit now and realized that as long as your message is compelling the audience will overlook minor mistakes. While most people would fall asleep during a presentation on intraocular pressure, these optometrists deal with glaucoma patients on an almost daily basis and looked forward to learning more about how to approach this problem.

May 6th, 2013
I always feel that there is never enough time to do all we want to do. I have come to accept that it will always be that way. We will never be completely “caught up.”
On Mondays, I have the day off from my surgery practice and I work in my home office. I almost always think I can accomplish more in a given day than ever gets done. Although my to-do list never gets completely finished, there are some days that end up being more productive than others. I started to think about why that was? What was I doing on those days that made them “work” better for me? I made it my quest to hone it down and distill it into some tips.

What Does Success Really Mean?
April 8th, 2013
I had a great discussion at the end of my day in the office. I was bordering on exhaustion but sometimes great conversation can really provide an energy boost. I had just completed a good but tiring day. There were interesting patients, positive feedback a few laughs with the great people I work with and a productive day of seeing consults and doing some laser surgery.
I was finishing off some paperwork when a couple of the pharmaceutical reps knocked on my door. They wanted to have a quick chat. We got to talking about the challenges of being working mothers
